Transition to Kindergarten 2025

Welcome to our  Kindergarten students for next year!

All of the staff at Samuel Gilbert extend a warm welcome to our preschool students who are preparing to enrol for Kindergarten next year. We hope you are feeling excited about coming to 'big school'.

The dates and details for our 2025 Transition Program can be found on this page later in the year.

We can't wait to meet you later this year! Until then, here are some helpful 'starting school' resources and a few fun activities for you to try at home.

Welcome to Samuel Gilbert Public School Video

Press play on the video to view a lovely welcome message from some of our current and past Kindergarten teachers.

We look forward to meeting your children soon.

Here are some fun activities you can do at home before you start Kindergarten!

Story time - Daisy's First Day

The department has produced a special picture book for parents and carers to support their child's transition to primary school.
Join Daisy on her first day at primary school. Who will she meet? What will she learn? What adventures await her?

Daisy's First Day Activity sheets

After reading the book and getting to know the characters, download and print out these Daisy's First Day-themed activities for your child to complete:

Let's play a game of 'I spy' together!

A great way to practice hearing the beginning sounds of spoken words is to play a simple game of 'I spy'. Can you guess which toys I am spying in my video?

You can also play 'I spy' at home, on a walk, in the car or at the grocery store. Choose words with easy to hear beginning sounds. For example, if you're in the bathroom you can say, “I spy with my little eye, something orange that starts with the sound ssss." (Answer: soap)

Have fun. We can't wait to meet you!

It's Maths Time!

Maths happens all around us – at school, at home, indoors and outdoors too! We hope you enjoy playing these two fun and creative maths games as you explore numbers 1 - 8 (and beyond!). All you need is a few paper plates and some pegs!

Game 1: The Choc-Chip Cookie Game

Game 2: Peg Matching Game
