Library

A Word from the Library.

The library at Samuel Gilbert Public School is continually developed to meet the education needs of the staff and to develop students as life-long learners. It has a comprehensive collection of resources that provides students and teachers with a wide range of print, multi-media and electronic resources to support the curriculum.

Our school library is a central hub of the school community, all students are welcomed and encouraged to explore the many animal, scientific and cultural displays that are on offer throughout the library space. All students are encouraged to engage with and make use of the resources available to them in the library.

Each week classes visit the library for a scheduled lesson with the Teacher / Librarian. The library is open at lunch times Monday to Friday (except Thursday) for students to exchange books and enjoy recreational activities such as reading, drawing, board games and literature-based puzzles.

They are a group of very reliable and friendly Year 6 students.

  • Year 1 to Year 6 students may borrow up to 4 books each week during class borrowing, Kindergarten students start at 1 book per week in Term 1 and build up, term-by-term, to 4 books in Term 4.
  • Student can borrow books in the lead up to April and September school holidays. No borrowing in lead up to July or December holidays
  • Overdue slips are printed in Term 2 and Term 4 to remind the few students with overdue books that we would appreciate their return for others to borrow.
  • The library is open 4 lunchtimes per week (only closed on Thursday).
  • In Term 4, borrowing usually ends around Week 8 to allow time for Library End-of-Year procedures to occur.

  • If a library book has been misplaced or lost, please check home & classroom. Then notify the librarian to double check library shelves (sometimes it's mis-shelved by students). If the books are lost or heavily damaged, you can purchase a replacement copy or speak to the Librarian to resolve the issue. Please contact library if you have any queries about this.

  • We welcome book donations to enrich our school library collection.
  • Please speak to the Librarian to show what books you intend to donate.
