Creative and Performing Arts

Students can unleash their creative flair through dance and music performances, competitions, exhibitions and enrichment programs. Students with particular interests and talents can participate in local and state-wide activities in visual arts, music and dance.

Vocal Ensemble (Choir)

Samuel Gilbert Public School offers many wonderful opportunities for students who love music. One of these is being a member of our school choir group. At Samuel Gilbert Public School we currently have two vocal ensembles: the K-2 Vocal Ensemble and the 3-6 Vocal Ensemble.

Throughout the year Vocal Ensemble students are invited to perform at various events including music festivals, choral concerts, assemblies, Education Week, Grandparents' Day and the Great Fete.

Groups meet once a week to learn new songs and further develop their understanding of musical concepts. Participation is by students who are committed to and show an interest in singing and music.

Band

Students have the opportunity to audition for band from Year 3 onwards. It provides students with an opportunity to explore their love of music in a structured and supportive environment. Samuel Gilbert Public School has three bands catering for all levels of talent - the Training Band, Concert Band and Performance Band. The band program is managed by a P&C sub-committee under the guidance of a Band Director.
Instruments are available for hire for a nominal fee.

All bands participate in eisteddfods and school and community performances throughout the year.

Dance

Samuel Gilbert Public School places a strong emphasis on our dance programs. All students participate in dance lessons with a specialist dance teacher.

In addition to our school dance program, students have the opportunity to audition for our specialised Stage One, Two and Three Dance groups. These dance groups perform at many events and eisteddfods throughout the year. Dance groups rehearse before school.

Students can also audition for Mrs Medcalf's Stage 3 dance group, Mrs Grossmith's Poms Group and Miss Mahony's Kindergarten dance group. These dance groups perform at many school-based events throughout the year and rehearse at lunch time.

Operation Art

Operation Art is an initiative of The Children's Hospital at Westmead in association with the NSW Department of Education and Communities. Operation Art provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their achievements in visual arts through exhibitions at galleries in New South Wales. The works submitted are designed to contribute to a visual environment that helps relieve anxiety for children during hospitalisation.

At Samuel Gilbert Public School students are eligible to participate in Operation Art by donating a gold coin. Our Creative Arts Committee judge entries chosen by classroom teachers. A small number of artworks are then selected from across the school to enter Operation Art. Winning artworks are professionally framed and exhibited at the Armory Gallery at Sydney Olympic Park.
